Bringing ZBrush to Life: Advanced visualization techniques

I will be taking an in depth look at a sculpture created in ZBrush. We will discuss various ways to visualize the artwork we create in ZBrush and display it in creative ways for clients. Participants will get a quick walkthrough of sculpting techniques and methods used to create the character and scene. We will then discuss the steps needed to take this 3D scene and composite it properly as a 2D render in Photoshop. The final part of my lecture will be discussing how I have brought this sculpture to life by printing it in real life 3D. I plan on bringing in the real life sculpture that has been printed to show the audience.

Art lover, hockey fanatic, and aspiring globetrotter. Andrew Smith is a ZBrush artist currently working in the University of Michigan's 3D Lab. He previously spent two years in California as the Lead Character Artist on the Virtual Patient Project at the Institute for Creative Technologies where he helped develop the next generation of virtual avatars for the United States Armed Forces. He also contributes to companies like Sideshow Collectibles with freelance work. In 2007, his first publication appeared on the front page of 3DTotal on Unreal Character Development.

Animation and rigging in Blender

Course will serve as an introduction to blender for users of other 3D software, And assumes basic knowledge of fundamentals of 3D modelling, Animation and rendering. The focus of the course will be in rigging and animation for 'unusual' Setups, i.e. Effects sequences such as growing, Timelapse, Motion-graphics - Like sequences, However, We will also briefly touch on some of the character animation tools and addons. Since this will be an introduction for most people, The course will also cover modelling materials and rendering, As well as introduce the 'mental model' Of Blender in terms of UI, Data structure and scripting.

Bassam is a 3D animator/filmmaker whose 2006 short, Elephants Dream, was the first 'open movie'. It established the viability of open tools in a production environment and set precedent by offering its source data under a permissive license for learning, remixing and re-use. His character, ManCandy, began as an easily animatable test bed for rigging experiments. Multiple iterations have been released to the public, and Bassam demonstrates him in the animated tutorial video + short, The ManCandy FAQ. Under the aegis of Urchin, Bassam is continuing to explore a model of production that capitalizes on commonwealth. He teaches, writes and lectures around the world on open production and free software technique. Born in Aleppo, Syria, Bassam trained in the United States as an electrical and software engineer.

I will use Nextlimit Realflow to construct an abstract water simulation and then take that mesh into Autodesk Maya for rendering of a single frame and finally into Photoshop for compositing.   I am a graduate of the Art Institute of Indianapolis with a Bachelors degree in Media Arts and Animation. During my time at the Art Institute I founded and was president of the SIGGRAPH Student Chapter
there. During my time as president I organized various events and contests over the 3 years I lead the chapter including but not limited to weekly Maya workshops and our own version of "Art Wars" as
seen at the Art Institute booth at SIGGRAPH. I have started a blog at http://davidortel.blogspot.com/ I will be updating it very soon. I am attaching a preliminary render of a "water simulation". What I will be
instructing on is how to sculpt fluids with the tools in Realflow to creat a dynamic abstract landscape. On a side note I can help out with miscellaneous things at the event if needed. I am always willing to
volunteer my time. Again thank you very much for considering me for this event.

Anatomy of a Dragon - 2D to 3D

Graham Toms' passion is to cultivate the techniques that springboard student artists of all ages into exploring their visual vocabulary without restriction to a specific medium. In his student-focused and interactive presentation, "Anatomy of a Dragon – from 2D to 3D", Graham brings his insights as both a traditional and 3D animation artist to share his adventure along a path of discovery, knowledge, sometimes frustration, and sense of completion when drawing and animating a dragon.

Graham Toms' family roots originate in County Down, Ireland. He attended the University of Ulster in Belfast, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts majoring in illustration and animation. After graduating and working as an animator/illustrator in Ireland, he accepted a position at the Disney Institute in Orlando, Florida in 1995. He moved to the United States with his wife Helen, and taught animation at the Institute for five years, also assisting with development of the curriculum for their animation classes. It was there that he started exploring 3D applications and found LightWave 3D. Today, as NewTek's Educational Specialist, Graham uses a holistic approach to design all educational content for university and high school curricula.

Dark Art of CG Lighting I & II

My specialty in all softwares is the Dark Art of CG Lighting.  I will illuminate CG lighting tools and techniques in ways that change artists perceptions of reality.

Nicholas is an avid sport pilot. Aside from this, he has spent the last 13 years seeking to understand and express light and textures in the simplest possible way, mainly to make up for the unbelievably convoluted tools that software engineers create for artists. His credits include 26 movies 23 commercials and four Television series. Nicholas currently works as a Visual Effects Supervisor in Vancouver and resides with his faimily in Deep Cove, BC. He deliberately left his bio short to try and make up for Bowmar and Lewkiw
